Ikea Special

The Glansa Filt lamp is in Ikea - downstairs in the in the Christmas Lights Section just behind the check outs (in Eastville, Bristol anyway).

Glansa

They were £10.99 and are now £6.49. approx 51cms x 35 cms. A good size to put onto trays , and over wedges. The star shaped lights are embedded safely into the soft (also flannel textured) carpet . The lights show both sides and the only wiring is the main lead to the mains. Helen told me that the fact the lights are both sides was  useful when putting it ontop of the clear Perspex ceiling if the Be-Active Box for a child she lent one to.

Useful feature: strong velcro at either end. The main purpose of the light is to velcro two ends together so that it stands as an integrated lamp. You could use this feature for other ideas e.g. putting  coloured cellophane inside etc. The lights do not get hot.

The bulbs can not be replaced.. There are several different colours with red / green and white lights. We think the white lights on dark grey background has the best contrast and is the most versatile as you can use coloured cellophane / sweet wrappers over the top (see picture below).

Could make a great Christmas Present and if you just want to use it as a bedroom lamp then that is fine too!

Cut the cardboard the lights comes in so that you have 2 strong pieces of card to protect it and to play peek-a boo games with.

Slide the cardboard over the mat slowly to encourage anticiaption, move the clear window over the mat to encourage scanning.

Here the lamp is velcroed together. You can imagine it standing up.
On it's side it could be motivating to reach out to to make it wobble a bit. Maybe put over an arm (your arm as the adult?).

Glansa 4

It goes without saying that this lamp is not sold/ made as a toy so supervision is needed when children are exploring and interacting with it.

I haven't tried it with a switch yet but I should think it would be very rewarding. You'll think of other ideas ! make sure you share.

That's all for now Sally But wait! There is more A note from Rom... Hi Sally,
Because they have velcro you can join them together to make an arch (Id has three joined together that he really looks at). xxx

P.S Lis And I also bought white lights in white felt for Christmas snow scene.....
We also bought colour changing light string GLANSA 901.264.20 and purple star curtain (which seems to be slightly UV)

Problem with getting sufficient colour contrast from yellow koosh ball on white tray?

Use your own or find someone to lend his or her black jacket to put over the table or tray. Later an insert could be made with matt card or fabric for the tray. Overhead lighting or sunlight through a window can give off an uncomfortable glare from a white surface (Imagine of you had restricted movement and couldn’t turn away from the glare)

Make use of local lighting (task lighting) to highlight areas of interest e.g. Dolls face.

These radiant tambourines are used for Salsa dancing. They are excellent for attracting visual attention. You can use them with sound and rhythm or just quietly. This one is placed on a small book chair. Positioning is important and flat is not always best.
